Amcorp Group Berhad

("Amcorp") is an investment holding company controlled by Tan Sri Azman Hashim. Our subsidiaries and associated companies are principally involved in the business of financial services, property development, property management, engineering, information technology, and consumer goods & services. To-date, Amcorp has total assets exceeding RM6.3 billion. Please refer to Business Activities for further information.

History

Amcorp was incorporated in Malaysia on 26 April 1910 under the Companies Ordinance 1889 as a limited company under the name of The Temerloh Rubber Estates Limited. After our listing on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange in 1961, Amcorp diversified into oil palm and cocoa plantation. In 1992, after disposing a substantial portion of its plantation activities, Amcorp acquired a 40% stake in

AMMB Holdings Bhd

(“AmBank Group”) and a 30% stake in

Amcorp Properties Berhad

(“Amprop”), then known as Arab-Malaysian Development Berhad, transforming itself into a financial services and property development company.

Amcorp was privatized in November 2006. In 2008, AmBank Group completed the formation of a strategic alliance with Australia and New Zealand Bank, which is among the top 50 banks in the world. It is now the 5th largest local banking group in Malaysia.

Similar to the Company, Amcorp’s logo has gone through numerous changes since the Company’s inception in 1910. The following are Amcorp’s previous logos:

   

The current Amcorp logo is created in 2010 in conjunction with Amcorp’s 100 years celebration. The design and colour of the new logo symbolizes our commitment to continuously reinvent ourselves to achieve even greater successes as Amcorp journeys on into its next Century


Milestone
2018
Amprop injected an additional €15 million into the joint-venture capital commitment for real estate investment in Spain.
Amprop acquired the 30% stake that ARA Asset Management Limited has in Am ARA REIT Holdings Sdn Bhd.
The Amcorp Study Grant ("ASG"), a collaborative effort between Amcorp Group and Yayasan Azman Hashim, was granted to 3 young achievers namely, Sharifah Maisarah Syed Muzafar, Tee Jia En and Tan Yi Qing to pursue the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants ("ACCA") qualifications locally.
A donation of RM2 million was made by Amprop for the renovation of Masjid Al-Istiqamah in Kayangan Heights, Selangor, Malaysia.
Yayasan Azman Hashim setup a RM5 million Azman Hashim IIUM Perpetual Endowment Property Fund in the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM), Kuala Lumpur campus for the purpose of generating income for IIUM and providing financial support for needy students.
Amprop acquired a residential development project located at Garcia de Paredes street in Madrid, Spain.
Amprop ventures into Shanghai market by acquiring a 35% stake in a project to acquire a property in Nanjing West Road, Shanghai, China.
Tunku Kurshiah College’s Azman Hashim Courts Complex, a multipurpose sports structure, was built with the sponsorship of RM550k by Yayasan Azman Hashim.
Yayasan Azman Hashim sponsored the renovation cost of RM330,000 for Surau Zabedah in Amcorp Mall.
Amcorp Power, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Amprop was awarded the IET Industry Award for its Amcorp Gemas 10.32MW Solar Power Plant by the Institution of Engineering and Technology Malaysia (IET), one of the world’s largest engineering institutions.
2017
Amcorp acquired Amprop’s entire 20% equity interest in MTrustee Berhad (fka AmTrustee Berhad) for RM1.752 million.
The Amcorp Study Grant ("ASG"), a collaborative effort between Amcorp Group and Yayasan Azman Hashim, a non-profit charitable organization was granted to 4 new recipients to pursue the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants ("ACCA") qualifications locally, namely Loise Lenem Anak Lister Nonem, Hoh Wai Hoong, Chan Sze Yen, and Leong Chi Yan.
Tan Sri Azman Hashim, via Yayasan Azman Hashim, sponsored RM200,000 towards Yayasan Raja Muda Selangor (“YRMS”)’s charitable activities to help youth aged between 18 to 29 years.
RM10 million was donated to the Methodist Council of Education, comprising RM8 million for Methodist Boys School, Sentul and another RM2 million for Wesley Methodist School, Penang.
Tan Sri Azman Hashim, via Yayasan Azman Hashim, sponsored RM200,000 towards Malaysia Inner Temple Alumni Association (“MITAA”)’s celebration of the 60th anniversary of Merdeka.
Amprop acquired 2 buildings in the Chamberi district of Madrid, Spain to be redeveloped into new residential and commercial luxury spaces.
Amcorp Mall was recognized as having Malaysia’s largest indoor flea market by the Malaysia Book of Records.
RCE’s CEO was elected by Focus Malaysia as the Best CEO in the Banking & Finance sector.
2016
Tan Sri Azman Hashim via Yayasan Azman Hashim, a non-profit charitable organization donated RM3 million to Kuen Cheng High School for the construction of a duplex library building.
Via Yayasan Azman Hashim, Tan Sri Azman Hashim donated RM4.16 million to Tunku Kurshiah College for the construction of a sports arena.
Amcorp disposed of 9.78 million ECM Libra shares at 37 sen per share.
Tan Sri Azman Hashim via Yayasan Azman Hashim, signed an agreement with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia to donate RM30 million to set up the Azman Hashim Endowment Scholarship Fund.
RCE established a Sukuk Murabahah asset-backed securitisation programme of up to RM900 million in nominal value via Al Dzahab Assets Bhd.
The Amcorp Study Grant ("ASG"), a collaborative effort between Amcorp Group and Yayasan Azman Hashim, was granted to 2 more deserving and high achieving recipients namely, Majdah Fadiah Binti Mohd Fareed and Agnes Ting Chai Nee to pursue the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants ("ACCA") qualifications locally.
Amprop entered into a €70m property joint venture to invest in real estate development and value-add projects in Spain.
Yayasan Azman Hashim pledged RM15 million for the construction of an art gallery in Universiti Malaysia Sabah.
Tan Sri Azman Hashim via Yayasan Azman Hashim, donated 6 units of the Hillcrest Residences condominium located in Bukit Jambul, Penang worth RM5.52 million for the purpose of setting up the Azman Hashim Endowment Fund in Universiti Sains Malaysia.
Yayasan Azman Hashim donated RM13.7 million to Jabatan Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan for the development and construction of 2 new Muslim burial sites in Wilayah Persekutuan, namely Raudahtul Sakinah Bukit Kiara 2 and Raudahtul Sakinah Kg. Melayu Kepong.
Amprop entered joint-venture agreement with a capital of HKD349.1 million to invest in Hong Kong real estates.
2015
Amprop and four other companies bought two prime central London properties known as Sampson House and Ludgate House, located on London's South Bank, and undertake to develop five residential buildings, four office towers, and retail and leisure facilities.
Amprop's 10.25MW Solar Power Plant in Gemas was awarded Frost & Sullivan's Solar Systems Company of the Year.
Amprop ventured into property development in Japan via two projects; Forest Nanpeidai and Court Annex Roppongi, both of which are located in Tokyo.
Amprop disposed 4B Merchant Square in June 2015, with a gain on disposal of about £9.75mil.
Azman Hashim Fellowship established under The Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, for a scholar studying any aspect of contemporary Muslim societies, with an endowment of GBP2.9 million from Yayasan Azman Hashim.
2014
Amprop disposed its entire 20% equity interest in KESAS Holdings Berhad to Gamuda Berhad for a total cash consideration of RM280 million. The disposal resulted in a gain of approximately RM149.1 million which translates to an EPS of approximately RM0.26 per share.
Tan Sri Azman Hashim via Yayasan Azman Hashim, a non-profit charitable organization donated RM200,000 for a new building at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) Serdang Baru, Selangor. The new 4-storey building, will benefit 3,222 students and include 18 classrooms and a teachers’ staffroom.
The Amcorp Study Grant ("ASG"), a collaborative effort between Amcorp Group and Yayasan Azman Hashim, a non-profit charitable organization, offered its scholarship to 3 deserving and high achieving recipients namely, Yip Mun Yee, Lim Yong Jian, Praveena A/P Rajan to pursue the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants ("ACCA") qualifications locally, bringing the total number of beneficiaries todate to 8 recipients. Each Grant comprises RM50,000 scholarship and RM20,000 Education Loan.
Increased stake in RCE Capital Berhad (“RCE”) to 52%.
2013
The Amcorp Study Grant ("ASG"), a collaborative effort between Amcorp Group and Yayasan Azman Hashim, a non-profit charitable organization, was granted to 3 more deserving and high achieving recipients namely, Syed Mohd Zahir, Khadeeja Binto Iro Iswono and Chin Mei Fen to pursue the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants ("ACCA") qualifications locally, bringing the total number of beneficiaries todate to 5 recipients.
Tan Sri Azman Hashim, Executive Chairman of Amcorp Group Berhad, via Yayasan Azman Hashim, donated RM10 million towards the construction of a sports arena at Universiti Sains Malaysia main campus in Gelugor, Penang. The multipurpose complex, which will be known as the Azman Hashim-USM Sports Arena, will have 54,880 sq m of built-up space. Among the facilities in the arena are 3 futsal courts and 14 badminton courts.
Tan Sri Azman Hashim received the Jewel of the Muslim World Award. The Award was given in recognition of his contributions to the Islamic world at the Fourth Organization of Islamic Cooperation ("OIC") World Biz 2013 organized by OIC Today Magazine.
Tan Sri Azman Hashim was conferred Honorary Doctorate in Management from University Malaya.
Tan Sri Azman Hashim via Yayasan Azman Hashim donated RM25 million towards the construction of a 5-storey building in University Malaya, approximately 79,501 sq ft as the center for the 800 plus Business and Accounting postgraduate students. The building will be named Bangunan Azman Hashim and will include lecture rooms, seminar rooms, discussion rooms, computer labs and parking bays.
2012
AMMB Holdings Berhad acquired MBF Cards (M’sia) Sdn Bhd for RM623.4 million after approvals by Bank Negara Malaysia. The businesses acquired included MBF’s Cards’ card issuing and merchant acquiring businesses under Visa, MasterCard, Japan Credit Bureau and China Union Pay licenses and bill payments and MBF Cards’ ownership of 33.33% in Bonuskad Loyalty Sdn Bhd.
Amcorp Perting Hydro Sdn Bhd wins the prestigious ASEAN Renewable Energy Award under the “On-Grid” category for its submission of the 4MW Sungai Perting Mini Hydro Power Station located in Bentong, Pahang. The award was presented by the ASEAN Centre for Energy at the 30th ASEAN Ministers of Energy Meeting held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Wilson Tan Wei Shen was selected as the 2nd Amcorp Study Grant (“ASG”) recipient after Tay Chia Chang in 2011, under the ASG program which is a collaborative effort between Amcorp Group and Yayasan Azman Hashim, to sponsor selected high achieving students to pursue the Association of Chartered Certified Accounts (“ACCA”) qualifications locally.
AMMB Holding Berhad, via AmG Insurance Berhad (“AmG”), acquired 100% equity interest in Kurnia Insurance (Malaysia) Berhad for RM1.627 billion, making AmG the leading general insurer and number one motor insurer in Malaysia.
Amprop acquired partial ownership of a freehold and income producing property at 29–30 Old Burlington Street in East Mayfair, central London for GBP23.25 million (RM113.13 million), with the interest to convert the 10 storey commercial office building into a prime residential development.
Tan Sri Azman Hashim, Executive Chairman of Amcorp Group Berhad was honoured as Outstanding CEO by The Edge Billion Ringgit Club for his leadership in taking his companies beyond the RM1 billion market capitalization mark.
Amprop acquired partial ownership of Pavillion D of NEO Bankside, an award winning prime residential development located in South Bank, central London for GBP16.5 million (RM80.02 million). The acquisition comprises 53 residential units, 1 retail unit and 4 car park spaces and is acquired for investment and trading purposes.
Harpers Travel (M) Sdn Bhd was awarded the Malaysia Airlines Diamond Award 2011 for outstanding sales achievement.
2011
Secured inaugural dealership with Volkswagen Group Malaysia and opened Volkswagen 3S (Sales, Service and Spare Parts) Centre in Jalan Ipoh
