YOU are as young or as old as you feel and age is just a number, said Ambank Group chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim during his 80th birthday.

The noted banker and philanthropist celebrated the occasion surrounded by family and friends at the Diamond Ballroom, Equatorial Plaza, Kuala Lumpur.

Remarking that he would prefer to spend his birthday on top of Mount Kinabalu, Azman noted, “I do not feel any different now than when I was 60. I am still able to do things I was able to do back then,” he said to laughter from the floor.

Azman praised his wife, Tunku Arishah Tunku Maamor, for always being supportive of him.

“In the course of our marriage, I had made some major changes that had huge consequences on our lives. However, she has stayed by my side through thick and thin.

“I thank her for being the wife and mother that our family needed, maintaining a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere for us all,” he said.

His youngest daughter, Shazrina Azman, popularly known as Mizz Nina, said her father is a “Gift from God”.

“You taught us that nothing is more valuable than family. May God shower you with many more years of health.”

Her elder sister, Shahrinaz Azman, was unable to hold back tears as she paid tribute to her father.

“Our father has always let us choose our own path, be it in education or career. He is a very supportive father,” she said.

Azman’s children composed a poem to mark the occasion which was read out by the emcee for the night.

The event also featured a performance by The Big Band from Universiti Malaya.
