FOUR students were given scholarships worth RM280,000, thanks to Yayasan Azman Hashim (YAH) and Amcorp Group Bhd in conjunction with the group’s Chinese New Year celebration.

YAH trustee Tan Sri Azman Hashim presented mock cheques for RM70,000 each to Nur Khairin Zahran, Emily Koh Jia Ru, Fahmy Azry Abdul Aziz and Annesa Uzahirah Abdul Hakim to finance their Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) studies.

Known as the Amcorp Study Grant (ASG), it was set up in 2011 to offer scholarships to deserving students to pursue the ACCA qualification in Malaysia on a full-time basis.

To date, 27 recipients have benefited from ASG, whic is a collaboration between Amcorp Group Bhd, Amcorp Properties, RCE Capital Bhd and YAH. The amount disbursed and committed so far is RM1.89mil.

Azman hoped ASG would continue to nurture more young and talented scholars to become future leaders in society.

At the event held at Amcorp Tower in Petaling Jaya, Amcorp Properties also donated RM5,000 to Persatuan Kebajikan Orang Orang Tua Bahagia Selangor, a home for the elderly.

The cheque was presented by Amcorp Properties chairman Shalina Azman to the home’s caretaker, Stanley Yap.

Twenty residents of the home joined Amcorp staff at its Chinese New Year festivities where guests were entertained to a performance by Azman who is known as the “singing chairman.”

He belted out three songs, including two Chinese numbers.

Visually challenged singer Godfrey Ooi was also invited to entertain guests.

There was a yee sang-tossing ceremony before everyone sat down to a delicious lunch.
