Amcorp Celebrates 108th Anniversary

(Petaling Jaya, 18 April 2018) : Amcorp Group Berhad (Amcorp) in collaboration with Yayasan Azman Hashim (YAH), gave out a total of RM246,300 in support of education related causes, in conjunction with Amcorp’s 108th anniversary celebrations.

Amcorp gave 3 scholarships worth a total of RM210,000 to 3 young achievers, namely Sharifah Maisarah Binti Syed Muzafar, Tee Jia En and Tan Yi Qing. Each of them received RM70,000 to finance their pursuit of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification.

The scholarships, known as the Amcorp Study Grant (ASG) is open for applications to all Malaysians aged 20 and below, who wish to study ACCA on a full time basis within Malaysia.

Apart from the scholarships, a donation of RM36,300 was also made to Soroptimist International Club of Damansara (SID), in support of SID’s Building Bridges Beyond Borders Programme (BBBB).

SID is part of the global women’s organization, Soroptimist International, which is an international volunteer movement established in 1928 in the United States of America, with the objective to educate, empower and enable opportunities for women and girls across 122 member countries.

The BBBB entails SID to source for volunteer teachers, mainly undergraduates from overseas, to teach at not-for-profit learning institutions such as the Myanmar Refugee Community Learning Centre, Pure Life Society and Rumah Aman in Malaysia.

The RM36,300 donation will be used to defray part of the volunteer teachers’ expenses.

YAH, a non-profit organization founded by philanthropist entrepreneur Tan Sri Azman Hashim, is focused on education for the betterment of society.

Apart from the above, some of the major education-centric contributions to various charitable and educational projects undertaken by Yayasan Azman Hashim include :

  • Donation of RM10 million to Methodist Council of Education, to assist its effort to support nation building through education
  • Donation of RM30 million to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia for the establishment of the Azman Hashim Endowment Scholarship Fund 
  • Funding the construction of a RM25 million building for postgraduate studies in Universiti Malaya 
  • Donation of £2.9 million to establish the Azman Hashim Fellowship with the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, United Kingdom 
  • Funding the construction of Azman Hashim UMS Art Gallery of RM15 million for Universiti Malaysia Sabah
  • Funding the construction of the Azman Hashim-USM Sports Arena of RM10 million and donation of 6 units condos worth RM5.5 million to Universiti Sains Malaysia for the establishment of the Azman Hashim Endowment Fund
  • Funding the construction of the Azman Hashim Complex multi-purpose hall of RM7 million for International Islamic University Malaysia
  • Funding the construction of a sports arena of RM4.2 million for Tunku Kurshiah College
  • Funding the construction of a duplex library building of RM3 million for Kuen Cheng High School, Kuala Lumpur
