Petaling Jaya, 24 May 2016 – Tan Sri Azman Hashim, founder of Yayasan Azman Hashim, donated RM838,900 to the Malaysian Liver Foundation (“MLF”) to set up a new liver clinic, known as the Azman Hashim Wellness Clinic (“AHWC”). 

The AHWC will bolster MLF’s capabilities to fulfil its objectives of providing support to patients of chronic Hepatitis B and C, fatty liver and liver cancer.  It will also act as a Centre for Liver Wellness whereby early diagnosis and therapies can be accessible to all Malaysians.

AHWC is located adjacent to the existing MLF office in Ara Damansara and is expected to commence operation by 3rd quarter of 2016. The existing MLF office was also donated by Tan Sri Azman Hashim in 2008.

The donation of RM838,900 will be used for the construction of the liver clinic’s infrastructure according to Ministry of Health’s specifications, acquisition of relevant equipment, consumables, medication, infusions and to pay salaries to 3 full time employees who will be hired for the clinic’s operations. 

MLF began its operations in 1996 when a group of specialist doctors based at the Malaysian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology came together to form MLF. Its wishes to have its own premises was fulfilled through a benevolent donation, by Yayasan Azman Hashim, of a 3-storey office building located at No. 26 Block C, Taipan Damansara 2, Ara Damansara, then costing RM1,450,000. Yayasan Azman Hashim’s founder, Tan Sri Azman Hashim is also a member of MLF’s Board of Trustees. 

MLF’s approach in achieving its objectives to prevent, treat and cure liver, gallbladder and pancreatic diseases through education, training and research comprised of :
  • Conducting public awareness campaigns on liver conditions such as Hepatitis;
  • Educational forums and events for doctors;
  • Research into liver diseases in Malaysia;
  • Provision of laboratory services to test patients for liver conditions.
Other core services offered by MLF are :
  • Helping patients manage better their liver, gall bladder, bile ducts, pancreatic and gastrointestinal diseases and cancers with the provision of the latest and safest diagnostics and therapies;
  • Offer functional medicines and immune support to promote liver wellness and prevention of liver and digestive systems cancers;
  • Vaccinations against Hepatitis B and A; 
  • Clinical research in the field of hepatobiliary diseases including assessing risk of cancer to institute early diagnosis and prevention.
