KUALA KRAI: Fifteen people who lost their homes in the 2014 flood catastrophe here received a new lease on life when they were presented with brand new houses today.

The fifteen, who are from three families, were gifted the homes by AmBank Group in a simple ceremony held at Kampung Pasir Era here.

The homes were built as part of a project jointly organised by AmBank Group and the Azman Hashim Foundation to aid victims of the worst flood in Malaysia’s history.

Kicked-off in 2015, the project has seen the construction of 20 homes and the repair and restoration of 76 others, for RM1.25 million.

Presenting the keys to the new homeowners today was AmBank group corporate communications and marketing head, Syed Anuar Syed Ali.

One of the grateful recipients was villager Abdul Rahman Salleh, who thanked Ambank and the Foundation for his new house.

"My six children and I have been renting a house in this village since our house was swept away by the flood.

"We are happy now that we will celebrate the coming Hari Raya Aidiladha at our new home. Many thanks to Ambank and the Azman Hashim Foundation for their generosity in helping many flood victims here," said the 73-year-old rubber tapper.
